DROOPY PANTS

LAKE WALES | In the annals of Polk County's dumbest criminals, there will be a special place for the Droopy Pants Bandit.
The thief ran from the E-Z Food Store in Lake Wales carrying two 24packs of beer Wednesday evening, only to be undone by his own sagging jeans.

A surveillance camera caught the suspect running from the business at 15 Acuff Road carrying the Bud Light cases. Both hands were full, leaving him with no way to pull up his pants as he makes his way to the getaway car outside.
His pants dropped, exposing his plaid boxer shorts as he stumbled to the ground. Cans of beer rolled everywhere and one sprayed onto the asphalt. He jumped into a Chevrolet Malibu — dark tinted windows, no license plate — and rode away.
“He kind of skid across the parking lot,” said Kartiv Taropawala, the store manager seen running after the man in the surveillance video. “He couldn't handle the pain, so he just got up and ran into the car.”
The store has been hit with several thefts in recent weeks. Last week, Taropawala parked a Dodge Neon he was trying to sell outside the shop overnight.
Taropawala got busy that day and mistakenly left the car's doors unlocked. Someone reached in the car early that morning and stole the stereo.
The bad economy is to blame for the thefts, he said. But he has little sympathy for criminals thwarted by their own wardrobe.
“The guy was a coward, right on camera,” he said.
If you have information about the crime, call Polk County Sheriff's Office detective Christine Smith at 863-678-4115.

HE-SHE INMATES

Chicago, Illinois (SafeCITY) - The Cook County Sheriff's Office has announced that it has made a change in its policy towards the housing of transgender inmates.

According to Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart, the Cook County jail will no longer house inmates according to their birth sex - but rather their "perceived" sex.

Yes, that means that female inmates who identify themselves as males may be placed with male inmates, even if they don't have the penis to go along with it. Male inmates who identify socially as a female may be housed with other female inmates.

Beginning on March 21, transgender inmates entering the jail will be screened by a Gender Identity Committee that decides where and how each inmate will be housed. Inmates now have the right, by law, to express their sexual orientation before the committee - and the committee has been directed to place the inmate in a housing unit that matches that identity.

The change in policy reportedly came when Sheriff Dart realized that there was no specific policy in place for transgender inmates. There was also a concern about the verbal and physical abuse transgender inmates often face while incarcerated with inmates of the same sex.

The new seven page policy details how the jail intends to handle a transgender inmate on topics ranging from housing to showering and grooming. Male inmates who identify as female, for example, will have access to feminine hygiene products.

Staff have also been ordered to modify they way they treat transgender inmates. - a pat down search, for example, now carries it's own set of procedures.

The jail, thus far, has already moved six transgender inmates to their new quarters - and have described their dispositions as "thriving."

The policy also requires jail security staff to attend sensitivity training on gender identity disorders.

Ahh... the joys of being a Chicago taxpayer...

CHAIN SAWED

Brooksville, Florida (SafeCITY) - Timothy Brooks, a 49-year-old Florida man was jailed after he allegedly used a chain saw to break into a motel room where his estranged wife and another man were in the midst of a date.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Brooks' wife was on a "date" with another man at a Best Western motel when Timothy Brooks crashed their party with a chain saw.

Investigators say deputies were dispatched after the motel clerk informed them a man had arrived with a chain saw looking for his wife. The clerk reportedly declined Brooks' inquiries about which room his wife was staying in.

Shortly afterward, the clerk heard loud banging noises coming from outside. When he ran out to the parking lot to see what the noise was, he found the rear passenger window if his car shattered.

Brooks was also seen by witnesses breaking the window out of another vehicle using his fist. As witnesses surveyed the damage, Brooks located the room his wife was staying in, broke the motel room window with a chain saw and forced his way inside.

Police say Brooks confronted his wife, Teresa Brooks, before turning his attention to her date, Eyad Alaghawani.

Brooks reportedly grabbed Alaghawani and repeatedly punched him in the head. He then fled the scene when Alaghawani managed to grab a phone and call police. It was later discovered that Brooks had also smashed out a window in Alaghawani's car.

Alaghawani told police that he had only known Teresa Brooks for a few days and never met her husband before. Teresa Brooks stated that she was on a date with Alaghwani when the two decided to go to a motel. She stated that she did not know how Brooks found her.

Brooks was booked into the Hernando County Jail on charges of battery, burglary and criminal mischief.
