Port St. Lucie, FL (SafeCITY) Angela Ferranti, a 25-year-old Florida woman was jailed Thursday after she allegedly stripped to her bra and panties on the belief she could flee a traffic accident without being tracked by K-9 units.

According to Port St. Lucie Police, officers were dispatched to the scene of a reported accident where they found an abandoned 1997 Buick that had crashed into the center median of north-bound Airoso Blvd.

Witnesses told officers that two people fled the crash scene on foot as the vehicle crossed over onto south-bound Airoso Blvd.

Investigators followed a trail of clothing (sandals and a pair of shorts) to Southeast Carter Blvd where a K-9 unit picked up the suspect's scent and followed it into a nearby wooded area. There officers found Ferranti stripped down to her bra and panties.

Ferranti told police that she had been out drinking and was headed north-bound on Airoso Blvd when her boyfriend became paranoid that police were following them and suddenly grabbed the steering wheel, according to the arrest report.

After the vehicle struck the median, Ferranti's boyfriend allegedly shouted that he would be locked up if police discovered that he had been drinking. That's when Ferranti began shedding her clothing as she fled the vehicle with her boyfriend.

Ferranti was brought back to the roadway and asked to perform a field sobriety test, which she reportedly failed. Officers also found a pipe with marijuana residue located inside the vehicle's center console.

Ferranti was booked into the Saint Lucie County Jail on charges of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to provide proof of registration.

The report did not state whether Ferranti's boyfriend had been located or arrested in the incident.
