ASLEEP IN CASKET

Bristol, Tenn. (SafeCITY) - Barrett Lance Hartsock of Bristol Tennessee was jailed after he allegedly broke into a funeral home and slept in one of the caskets.

According to police, officers were dispatched after employees at Weaver's Funeral Home in Bristol walked in and found two men asleep in funeral home caskets.

Investigators say two men broke into the funeral home overnight and fell asleep in two of the funeral home's caskets. When the employees told the men they were calling police, the two men jumped out of a window and fled the premises.

Barrett Hartsock was captured, however the second man has not been found. Detectives say the two men caused more than $9,000 in damages to the caskets they slept in.

Hartsock was booked into jail on charges of burglary and vandalism over $1,000.

IN HER PANTIES

Davenport, Iowa (SafeCITY) - Phillip Hicks, a 27-year-old Iowa man was jailed after he allegedly paid a woman to hide his drugs in her panties.

According to Davenport Police, officers pulled over a woman's vehicle Monday night after she ran a stop sign. While the vehicle was pulling over, Hicks reportedly threw a clear baggie containing crack-cocaine into the woman's lap and told her to hid it.

He reportedly told the woman he had a warrant for his arrest before offering her $500 to hide his rocks. That's when the woman put the baggie of drugs into her underwear.

When the woman was searched, officers recovered 9.7 grams of crack-cocaine. When Hicks was searched, $3,020 in cash was found in his possession.

Hicks was booked into the Scott County Jail on charges of felony drug possession.

FLIPPED THE BIRD

Stafford, Virginia (SafeCITY) Joynee Carter, a 19-year-old Virginia woman, was arrested after she reportedly flipped police officer the bird as they were processing an accident scene.

According to the Stafford Sheriff’s Office, officers were processing a car accident that required shutting down the road and then diverting traffic through a nearby parking lot.

Investigators say, Carter drove through the road-block and almost hit a deputy. When officers yelled at Carter to pay attention, she responded by flipping off police as she drove through.

Police followed the woman for eight-miles and during the pursuit, Carter refused to stop and ran a red light. Carter eventually pulled into her driveway where she proceeded to lock her car doors and windows and blared her car horn.             

A family member gave police a key to Carter’s car and took her into custody.

Carter was booked into the Rappahannock Regional Jail on charges of felony eluding, obstruction of justice, reckless driving and running a red light.

CALLED HER FAT

Lincoln, NE (SafeCITY) - Anna Mae Godfrey, a 21-year-old Lincoln woman, was jailed after she allegedly bit off part of a man's ear because he called her fat.

According to Lincoln police, Godfrey was leaving a party around 3:00 a.m. when three men in their 20s reportedly began to argue with the other party-goers.

Investigators say one of the men, 24-year-old Christian Bandiola, called Godfrey fat. In retaliation, she ran half a block and tackled the man, then bit off part of his right ear, leaving a gash measuring approximately 1/2 inches by 3/4 of an inch.

The missing piece of ear was never found. Bandiola will now likely require plastic surgery to repair the damage.

Godfrey was booked into jail and charged with first-degree assault.

SNAKE IN PANTS

Mesa, Arizona (SafeCITY) - Eric Fiegel, a 22-year-old Arizona man was jailed after he allegedly tried to steal several exotic reptiles (including albino boa constrictors) by placing him down his pants.

According to Mesa police, an investigation was launched after security cameras at Predator's Reptile Center caught Fiegel stealing baby boa constrictors from the store and then shoving then into his pants and pants pockets.

Investigators say Fiegel wandered around the store for about an hour with the snakes in his pants before leaving. He then reportedly returned to the same store later that evening to steal more snakes.

Fiegel reportedly took some of the snakes to another pet store where he sold them for $175 and a reptile tank worth $175. His identity was learned after a witness took down his license plate number following the second theft.

Fiegel was booked on several counts of theft.

DRINK, DRIVE, SEX

Louisville, Kentucky (SafeCITY) - George E. Howard, a 58-year-old Louisville man was jailed after he was allegedly caught drinking, driving and having sex all at the same time.

According to Jeffersontown police, officers pulled Howard over at about 1:13 a.m. after they reportedly saw him driving erratically while drinking from a can of beer.

When officers walked up to the vehicle, they found a female passenger bent over with her head between Howard's legs, in a sexual manner. Howard smelled strongly of alcohol and had glassy eyes. Once he exited the vehicle, his pants fell to his knees.

Investigators say Howard admitted to officers that he had been driving while having sexual relations and had also consumed alcohol. The female passenger attempted to hide beer in her dress, but officers found and confiscated it. After failing several sobriety tests, Howard was taken into custody.

Howard was booked into jail and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, and second-degree wanton endangerment.

RETURN THE $$

Sugarloaf Township, Pennsylvania (SafeCITY) - Otto McNab Jr., a 36-year-old Pennsylvania man was jailed after he allegedly robbed a bank, then immediately returned the money after his girlfriend yelled at him over the incident.

According to Sugarloaf Township police, McNab entered the Susquehanna Bank around noon and told a teller that he had a bomb before demanding that she hand him all of the bank's money.
The teller cooperated with McNab, handing him $2,262.

McNab then fled the bank to a waiting vehicle, however that vehicle was being driven by his girlfriend who was not happy after hearing what he has just done.

After learning that McNab had just robbed a bank, the woman reportedly yelled at him and demanded that he return the money immediately - which he did.

Officers received a description of the getaway vehicle, and found McNab a few minutes later as he was pulling into his driveway. He told reporters that "Times are tough. You gotta do what you have to do to support your family."

McNab was booked into jail and charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and terroristic threats. He is being held in lieu of $50,000. He is scheduled for arraignment on August 29th. His girlfriend will not face any charges.

FAKED IT

Ashley Anne Kirilow, a 23-year-old woman was jailed after she allegedly faked having cancer in order to collect thousands of dollars in charity donations from people who thought she was dying.
According to police, Kirilow defrauded charity groups and hundreds of people to raise thousands of dollars in contributions for cancer treatments she never required. She even went so far as to shave her head, shave her eyebrows and starve herself to appear as though she was going through chemotherapy treatments.

Her fingers were tattooed with the phrases "love life" and "won't quit" just to pump up the dramatics.

Investigators say Kirilow's shenanigans began in 2008 when she was treated for a benign lump in one of her breasts. She then reportedly told everyone she was diagnosed with breast cancer - a lie that would eventually bilk friends and strangers out of $20,000 for cancer research and treatments.

Kirilow reportedly befriended charity groups and recruited volunteers who assisted her in organizing benefit concerts in her honor. One organization, Skate4Cancer flew Kirilow to Disney World to fulfill what she said was her "dying wish" to see the theme park.

Kirilow has since explained that she began the lie as "an opportunity to make my family feel bad for how as I treated."

Her story began to unravel when her parents became suspicious after she informed them she only had weeks to live. Kirilow has since promised to pay back everyone she took advantage of.
Kirilow was booked into the Vanier Centre for Woman on three counts of fraud under $5,000. She now faces up to two years in jail if convicted.

STRAP ON

Bradenton, Florida (SafeCITY) - Jantavia Taylor, a 21-year-old Bradenton woman was jailed after she allegedly chased her live-in girlfriend around the neighborhood with a sex toy.

According to Bradenton Police, officers were dispatched after receiving a call about an alleged knife attack.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the reported weapon was not a knife, but instead was a sex toy (strap on dildo).

Investigators say Taylor and her girlfriend, 23-year-old Tamara Cadet, were arguing when Taylor began chasing her with what she thought was a knife.
Cadet ran outside, fearing injury, and Taylor ran after her for about a block, then stopped.

Detectives recovered a strap-on penis near the couple's residence.

Taylor was booked into the Manatee County Jail and charged with felony domestic violence. No bond has been set,

DRUNK & NAKED

Madera, California (SafeCITY) - David Ramirez Lopez, a 44-year-old fugitive of justice was jailed after he was allegedly found naked inside a corral full of horses.

According to the Madera County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested Lopez after finding him drunk and completely naked inside his neighbor's corral.

Investigators did not say what Lopez was up to inside the corral, but that his antics were carried out in full view of passing traffic and children who were playing nearby.

Deputies also learned that Lopez had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. One warrant was for 2 counts of battery, the second warrant for drunk and disorderly conduct.

Lopez was booked into the Madara County Department of Corrections on a charge of indecent exposure. His bail has been set at $11,000.

WEED WACKED

Woodridge, Illinois (SafeCITY) - Yashesh Desai, a 21-year-old Woodridge man was jailed after he allegedly used a weed whacker to bludgeon his father to death.

According to DuPage County authorities, officers were dispatched after Desai's brother told 911 operators that Yashesh Desai had murdered their father.

Investigators arrived to find Desai's father, 47-year-old Sanjiv Desai, laying dead in a computer room where he had been sleeping on a futon.

An autopsy revealed that Sanjiv Desai died of massive head trauma that had been inflicted by a weed trimmer.

During a police interview, Yashesh Desai told investigators that he bludgeoned his father with the weed trimmer because his father owed him some money. Investigators say Desai then yammered on and on about senseless gibberish that made no sense.

Desai reportedly talked about Godzilla, the Turks, the need for 23 million soldiers and the difference between X and Y chromosomes.

During Desai's initial court appearance, the judge asked how long it had been since he last held a job. Desai reportedly answered loudly stating "The beginning of time."

Desai reportedly blurted out other nonsensical answers in court and laughed regularly as family members watched the proceedings.

Desai was booked into jail on a charge first-degree murder. His bond has been set at $2 million dollars.

NEED TO FEED

Galveston, TX (SafeCITY) - Lyle Bensley, a 19-year-old self-proclaimed "vampire" was jailed after he allegedly broke into a woman's apartment, hissed at her and then bit her on the neck.

According to Galveston Police, Bensley forced his way into a woman's apartment and made his way into her bedroom.

Bensley, who was wearing only boxer shorts during the incident, hissed at the woman and struck her several times while attempting to bite her on the neck.

When Bensley tried to drag the woman out of her apartment, she broke free and ran to a neighbor's home to call 911.

Police were dispatched to the scene at around 6:50 a.m. Upon arrival, the officers found Bensley out in the apartment complex parking lot shrieking and making growling sounds.

"I'm a vampire, and I've been alive for over 500 years," Bensley reportedly told the officers. "I have a need to feed."

Bensley then begged the officers to arrest him because he "didn't want to kill them," according to the arrest report. Officers took him into custody after a short foot chase.

Bensley was booked into jail on a charge of burglary with intent to commit assault. His bail has been set at $40,000.

BLOWUP DOLL

Spring Hill, Tenn. (SafeCITY) - Daniel Torroll, a 56-year-old Spring Hill music teacher was jailed after police allegedly found him under a bridge at an elementary school having sex with a child-like blow up doll.

According to police, officers were dispatched after receiving a report of a suspicious male with a duffel bag under a bridge at Allendale Elementary School. The bridge reportedly provides a walkway to the school from a nearby road.

Investigators say an officer arrived to find Torroll performing sex acts on a child-like blow up doll. Police later discovered that Torrell had cut holes into the doll.

Torrell told police that he didn't know he was on school property and suffers from attention deficit disorder.

He was not booked into jail but was issued a citation for public indecency, according to police spokesperson, Marcus Albright.

Torrell is a private lesson music teacher and does not teach at Allendale Elementary School.

FOUND NAKED

Knoxville, Tenn. (SafeCITY) - David Ford, a 50-year-old Tennessee man was jailed after he was allegedly found naked in a storm drain, hiding from police.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched after a pastor reported seeing a naked man run across a parking lot and then hide in a storm drain - completely naked.

Police arrived a short time later and found the man still hiding in the drain.

Ford refused medical treatment and told officers that he had been running from police all day after breaking into a business earlier that day. The only burglary reported that day was a business that had it's back door kicked in. nothing was stolen from the business.

No explanation was given as to why Ford was disrobed.

CUFFED HER

Dalton, Georgia (SafeCITY) - Jason Dean, a 24-year-old employee at a Dalton area Taco Bell was jailed Wednesday after he allegedly handcuffed himself to a woman who refused to go out with him.

According to police, Dean pulled up next to an 18-year-old woman in the Taco Bell parking lot and handcuffed himself to her wrist.

The woman, who was a co-worker at the same store, called for help. Several employees ran outside and talked Dean into releasing the woman.

Witnesses told investigators that Dean had been trying to date the woman for several weeks and that several employees had to change shifts with her so she could avoid contact with him.

Dean was booked into jail on a charge of false imprisonment. Police also recovered the handcuffs believed to have been used in the incident.

PLAYMATE WITH GUN

Orlando, Florida (SafeCITY) - Another Playboy Playmate goes to the dark side... adding to the long list of Playmates who have been jailed, fired or overdosed on drugs in the last few years.
Shanna Marie McLaughlin, a 25-year-old former Playboy Playmate was jailed after TSA agents found a loaded handgun packed inside a duffel bag as she attempted to board a plane at the Orlando Airport.
Apparently she didn't get the memo that guns aren't allowed on planes?

According to police, McLaughlin placed her duffel bag into the X-ray machine as she attempted to check her bags during a flight out of Orlando. That's when a TSA agent saw what appeared to be a hand gun inside her bag - which inevitably turned out to be a loaded Ruger SAA .45 long colt.

Investigators say McLaughlin stated that she had no idea she was carrying the gun, but pointed out that she possesses a concealed weapons permit.

After a thorough, TSA worthy pat down search......yeah, let that sink in for a minute.....McLaughlin was taken into custody.

She was booked into the Orange County Jail on a charge of carrying a firearm in a place prohibited by law.

McLaughlin was crowned Playboy's Miss July in 2010 and is also a University of Central Florida graduate. She was best known for causing quite a stir on the UCF campus when she was involved in steamy locker room photo shoot at the school.

SLEEPER MUG

Redding, California (SafeCITY) - Nichlous Peternik, a 27-year-old California man was jailed after he was allegedly caught burglarizing a house and then appeared to need a little help staying upright for his mug shot.

According to police, officers were dispatched in response to a burglary alarm at a local Redding residence.

Officers surrounded the house and ordered Peternik to come out, however Peternik refused. That's when officers sent a k-9 unit into the house, who apprehending Peternik.

Peternik was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a dog bite before posing for this mug shot.

He was then booked into the Shasta County Jail on burglary charges where he fell asleep in front of the camera. His bail was set at $10,000.

HOT REFEREE

Elk City, Oklahoma (SafeCITY) - Matthew Dixon, a 25-year-old Oklahoma man was jailed after he allegedly tried to make off with a woman's "Hot Referee" costume by shoving the item down his pants.

According to Oklahoma City Police, an off-duty officer was working as a security guard at Party Galaxy late Friday when he saw a man pick out a costume and head towards the back of the store.

Investigators say the customer, later identified as Dixon, proceeded to remove the costume from it's packaging and shove it down his pants.

When Dixon noticed he was being watched by the officer, he attempted to remove the item from his pants and exit the store. When the officer grabbed his arm, he attempted to flee, but instead fell to the ground where he got a mouth full of carpet as the officer handcuffed him.

Dixon was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a pending charge of merchandise larceny. He was also held on a pending charge of interfering with an official process stemming from an active warrant for his arrest.

THE CAR WON

Boulder, Colorado (SafeCITY) - Jonas Rizzo, a 38-year-old Boulder man was jailed after he became intoxicated and then ran into a car while attempting to beat a red light on a bicycle.

According to Boulder police, officers stopped Rizzo after they watched him almost eat pavement while riding his bike.
When the officers stopped Rizzo and asked a few questions about his appearance, Rizzo reportedly admitted to running his bike smack into a car while attempting to beat a red light.

Rizzo reportedly admitted to officers that the accident wasn't the car's fault, but his own. He then agreed to submit to a field sobriety test, which ended in failure.

Rizzo was booked into the Boulder County Jail on a charge of biking under the influence. He was released a short time later.

STUCK IN ATM

Haverhill, Massachusetts (SafeCITY) - David Haskell, an 18-year-old Boston teen, was jailed after he was reportedly caught inside an ATM, attempting to rob it.

According to Haverhill police, Haskell managed to climb inside a Bank of America ATM machine after punching a hole through the surrounding dry wall and then dropping himself into the machine itself.

Investigators say cameras captured activity around and even inside the machine, prompting an investigation.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find the ATM shaking and believed there was someone stuck inside. When they approached the machine, Haskell popped his head out from inside the ATM. He was immediately arrested.

Haskell was scheduled to be arraigned on charges of breaking and entering, malicious damage, larceny and drug possession, but he sobbed throughout his court hearing and was believed to be too high on drugs to continue.

Haskell's attorney reportedly told the court his client was attempting to rob the ATM in order to pay a drug debt.

He remains jailed without bond due to a probation violation from a previous case where he was charged with assaulting, bullying, and criminally harassing a special needs student.

BATTLE AX

Frederick, Maryland (SafeCITY) - Andrew Scalera, a 44-year-old Fredrick man was jailed after he allegedly chased and then injured an employee with a medieval battle ax.
The resulting injury caused a gash so deep, it chipped the man's bone.

According to Frederick police, the victim, who works for Scalera's painting company, was filling out work orders at Scalera's home when Scalera woke up and began accusing the man of stealing quarters from his bedroom.

When the victim denied stealing anything, Scalera reportedly began choking him. Scalera then ran to his bedroom, retrieved a medieval-style decorative ax, and said "I'll kill you. I am Italian and you know how I am".

Scalera then swung the axe at the victim, leaving a two-inch gash on his forearm. The victim attempted to ward Scalera off with pepper spray, but was unable to stop the attack. Scalera then took another swing with the axe, but missed and broke a glass door instead.

Investigators say the victim was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment. An X-Ray showed that the ax had cut all the way to the bone. Police met the victim at the hospital and received a statement from him.

Deputies were also sent to Scalera's home, where they found a bloody towel that the victim used to stop the bleeding on his arm. They also noted that Scalera had duct-taped the window on his door where the glass was broken. Officers believe alcohol may have been a factor in the argument.
Scalera was booked into jail and charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

LEG SPREADER

Spring Hill, Florida (SafeCITY) - Anita Lewis, a 55-year-old Florida woman was jailed after she told deputies she drank a half pitcher of beer and one "leg spreader" shot.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, a deputy pulled Lewis over after she apparently missed a turn and drove onto the grassy road shoulder on the opposite side of the street.

When the deputy approached the drivers side of the car, he encountered Lewis, who smelled strongly of alcohol, had blurry speech and bloodshot eyes.

When the deputy asked how much she had to drink, Lewis replied that she had consumed a half pitcher of Bud Light and one "Leg Spreader" shot. She also told the deputy that her vehicle was unregistered, so she was using a "friends" automobile tag.

The deputy conducted a field sobriety test, which Lewis allegedly failed.

She was booked into the Hernando County Jail on charges of DUI (third violation), driving while suspended, failure to register a motor vehicle and attaching a fraudulent registration license. Her bond was set at $2,300.

SORRY SWEETIE

Greensboro, N.C. (SafeCITY) - Kevin Smith, a 28-year-old North Carolina man was jailed after settling a disagreement with his wife the old fashioned way. He allegedly ran her over with his car.

According to police, Kevin and Denise Smith were engaged in a domestic dispute when Smith hopped into his 2002 Dodge Stratus and ran the woman down. He then fled the accident scene leaving the injured woman behind.

Investigators estimate that Smith was traveling 25 miles per hour when the impact occurred.

Police and emergency crews arrived on the scene and rushed the woman to Moses Cone Hospital where her condition is currently unknown.

Investigators caught up Kevin Smith a short while later as he was driving south on Summit Avenue. Police discovered him to be in possession of drugs, and found a $200 dent in the front of his car. The dent was later attributed to be the impact point at which the car struck the woman.

Smith was booked into jail on charges of felony hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

FOR A CAT

North Palm Beach, FL (SafeCITY) - Robin Warren, a 55-year-old Florida woman was jailed after she allegedly attacked her husband with knives, scissors and a coat hanger after the two argued about medical treatment for a cat.
According to police, Warren and her husband were arguing over a cat's medical treatment when Warren grabbed a pair of scissors and lunged at her husband with them.

The husband grabbed the scissors away, but Warren picked up a wooden coat hanger and slashed him in the face with it.

When the husband tried to leave the residence, Warren grabbed two kitchen knives and began slashing the man's hands and arms with them.

8 YEAR OLD

Livingston Parish, Louisiana (SafeCITY) - Billy Joe Madden, a 28-year-old Hattiesburg man was jailed after he allegedly allowed his 8-year-old son drive his vehicle while he slept in the passenger seat.

According to Louisiana State Police, officers were dispatched following a report of a green Chevrolet pickup truck that was driving erratically on an interstate in Livingston Parish. The caller also reported that the it appeared like a child was driving the truck.

Investigators say when officers located and stopped the vehicle, they found an 8-year-old boy behind the wheel.

Madden, who was identified as the boy's father, was intoxicated and was sleeping in the passenger seat. Madden's 4-year-old daughter was also in the back seat of the vehicle.

Madden admitted that he let his son drive from Hattisburg to Dallas, Texas. Child Protective Services gained custody of the children until family members were able to pick them up. No injuries were reported.

Madden was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail and charged with two counts of child desertion, parent allowing a minor to drive, open container and two counts of no child restraint and no seat belt. His bond was set at $1,474.
