TWO ZAPS

Brewton, Alabama (SafeCITY) - Crystal Mealer, a 23-year-old Alabama woman was jailed after she allegedly barged in on a police traffic stop, insisted they let her help them with the stop and then took to brawling when they tried to arrest her for drunk driving.

According to Brewton police, officers had just pulled over a vehicle for speeding and were attempting process the stop when Mealer pulled behind the patrol car and offered to assist the officer. Although the officer told Mealer that she needed to leave the scene, Mealer reportedly insisted that she needed to stay because she intended to become a police officer.

She went a step further by informing the officer that she had even picked up an application to become an officer recently.

Investigators say the officer became concerned that Mealer may have been intoxicated and asked her if she had been drinking. The officer then performed a breath test on Mealer, which she reportedly failed.

When the officer attempted to take Mealer into custody, Mealer's police acadamy ambitions took a break as she began fighting with officers at the scene.

Officers were forced to use a Taser on Mealer, hoping she would listen to their commands to not resist. When the first zap didn't calm her down, a second jolt of law enforcement enthusiasm finally brought her into submission.

"The officers reported that she kicked at them, tried to bite them and even tried to grab a firearm from an officer," according to police Chief Kenny Brazile.

Mealer was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence, assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
