PADDLES IN BOXERS

Palm Harbor, FL (SafeCITY) - Christopher Schaumburger, a 20-year-old Florida man was arrested after he allegedly burglarized two homes in his boxer shorts and then tried to flee deputies in a paddle boat.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Schaumburger was arrested 200 yards off-shore in Lake Tarpon after he robbed two homes and then tried to flee in his boxer shorts using a paddle boat.

Investigators say Schaumburger first burglarized a resident's home when he broke the homeowner's window around 9 a.m., leaving a pair of sunglasses behind.

Schaumburger was then discovered inside another resident's home a short time later after the homeowner awoke to find Schaumburger ransacking his home.

When Schaumburger was confronted by the homeowner, he fled the premises, hopped on a bike and peddled the way.

Although the homeowner gave chase, and eventually caught up with Schaumburger, he backed off and called authorities when Schaumburger produced and threatened him with a pocket knife.

Investigators say Schaumburger fled down the street to a dead end - where there was no place to go except to hop into a paddle boat and attempt to flee across the lake.

Deputies arrived on scene - and with the aid of a Sheriff's Office helicopter, was able to locate Schaumburger as he was crossed the lake wearing nothing but boxer shorts.

Deputies took Schaumburger into custody after using another docked paddle boat to catch up with him.

He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of armed burglary, dealing in stolen property, burglary, attempted burglary and aggravated assault. He is currently being held in lieu of an $85,000 bond.
