Ft White, Florida - Rodney Troy Whitley, a 41-year-old Florida man was arrested on drunk driving charges after he crashed into a deputy's house while texting.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Whitley was driving south on State Road 49 Sunday when he reportedly became preoccupied with text messaging and veered off the road.
Investigators say Whitley's van broke through a fence, traveled across a yard and into the home of a Gilchrist County deputy. The deputy and her husband were sleeping in the house at the time. The husband received injuries from flying debris that required stitches.
The deputy told investigators that she heard a loud noise and then saw that a minivan had come through their bedroom wall.
Whitley reportedly told a State Trooper that he had lost control of his vehicle while answering a text message on his cell phone.
A breath test was administered to Whitley, revealing him to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14% - nearly twice the legal limit by Florida State law.
Whitley was booked into the Gilchrist County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and careless driving. Bond info was not available.
