MARRY ME? NO!

Los Angeles, California (SafeCITY) - Mario Francisco Hernandez, a 22-year-old Whittier man was jailed after he allegedly tried to run down his ex-girlfriend with a car after she turned down his marriage proposal.

According to the Pico Rivera Sheriff's Office, the incident began when Hernandez proposed to the 21-year-old woman at a local fast food restaurant with a bouquet of flowers and the question "Stacy Will You Marry Me" scribed across his car's rear window.

Hernandez reportedly had a ring on hold at a local jewelry store when he drove to the woman's work place, in anticipation that she would say "yes."

When "Stacy" said no and then walked away, Hernandez reportedly hopped into his car and came after the woman with a vengeance.

Deputies say Hernandez drove onto a sidewalk, through a row of bushes and into the restaurant parking lot, narrowly avoiding the woman. He then abandoned the vehicle, which had two flattened tires, and fled on foot with the bouquet of flowers.

"He did not take the rejection well," said Sheriff's Lt. Andrew Berg.

Investigators say deputies were headed towards Hernandez' home by helicopter when they spotted him walking down the street still carrying the bouquet.

Hernandez was booked into jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail in his case has been set at $30,000.

The woman, who reportedly has two children with Hernandez, has since filed for a restraining order.
