TOOL SHED

Dania Beach, Florida (SafeCITY) - Pastro Jang-Sung Park, a 54-year-old Dania Beach resident was jailed after he allegedly forced his 84-year-old mother to live in a tool shed so he could rent out her room.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched To Park's residence following a report of a landlord-tenant dispute.

Park's tenant, Sheila Kennedy, called authorities because she said Park had changed the locks of her residence and rented out the room to someone else.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found an 84-year-old woman living inside a tool shed on the property with no electricity and barely enough room for a bed. She was malnourished, dehydrated, and had maggots on her face and body. She was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where she is now listed in good condition.

Investigators say Park stated that he moved his mother to the shed two weeks prior, insisting that he needed to use her bedroom to generate more money. He said that he continued to take care of his mother while she was in the shed and that there was nothing wrong with his actions.

Park's wife visited her mother-in-law at the hospital Monday evening. "She now is OK. I went to the hospital for three hours and fed her Korean food," she stated.

Park was booked into jail on charges of abusing the elderly. He posted bond and was ordered not to come within 100 feet of his mother, or within 500 feet of her residence.
