Dover, Florida (SafeCITY) - Charles McDaniel, a 25-year-old Florida man was jailed after attempting to flee from deputies on a riding lawn mower.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, detectives arrived at a residence occupied by McDaniel and friend Michael Riddles to investigate a complaint of stolen property.

When deputies rolled in, McDaniel reportedly grabbed a loaded handgun, hopped on a riding lawnmower and fled the scene.

Investigators say deputies followed McDaniel in a slow speed chase until he finally gave up and turned the mower off. He then reportedly tossed a loaded .380 Kel Tec handgun into the ditch before surrendering to deputies.

Reportedly, deputies had actually gone to the residence in search of stolen items in connection to McDaniel's friend. Both men were taken into custody.

McDaniel, who's jail bookings look more like a school yearbook, was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of grand theft firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

McDaniels has an extensive list of prior offenses that include multiple arrests for burglary, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, grand theft auto, drug paraphernalia, dealing in stolen property, cocaine possession and marijuana possession,

Michael Riddles was charged with grand theft auto, grand theft, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a vehicle with an altered VIN and criminal mischief.
