OVERDUE BOOKS

Baytown, Texas (SafeCITY) - Jessekah Few, a 25-year-old Texas woman was jailed on Thanksgiving day after she allegedly failed to return overdue library books.

According to Baytown Police, officers took Few into custody on Thanksgiving day after she failed to appear in court on an allegation of failing to return overdue library books.

Investigators say Few was notified several times about returning the library's property. Charges were filed when she reportedly failed to respond to the library's demands that the books be returned. A warrant was then issued when she failed to appear in court to answer the complaint.

"It's part of the deal, part of the agreement you enter into" said police Det. Alan Ciburn. "It's just like anything else - you can't take something that doesn't belong to you and just hold onto it."

Few, who has since been released from jail, said that she doesn't have the books any longer because they were destroyed in a house fire several years ago. Paperwork in regards to a filed claim on the house fire is still pending, according to Few.
