GIMME GUM

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (SafeCITY) - Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who committed several brazen robberies - including one instance where the robber was forced to buy a pack of gum for $1 so cashiers could get the cash register open.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, an armed robber entered a local Family Dollar store, lured an employee to the dog food isle, then pulled out a gun and demanded that the clerk open the cash register. When she explained that she couldn't open the register unless she rang up a sale, the man bought a $1 pack of gum. The entire incident was caught on the store's security camera.

Investigators say the next day, the suspect entered Carribean Mizik, and again robbed the clerks at gunpoint. He fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash, and threatened to kill anyone who called the police on his way out.

Anyone with any information on this case is asked to contact the Fort Lauderdale Violent Crimes Division at 954-828-5518. Anyone who prefers to remain anonymous can call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
