Summerville, South Carolina (SafeCITY) - Amy Lynn Stewart, a 34-year-old Summerville woman was jailed after she allegedly ran over several middle school students because they were "in her way."

According to Summerville police, a group of children were walking to Alston Middle School around 8:00 a.m. when Stewart approached in her car and honked the horn.

The children were walking along the shoulder of the road because a sidewalk wasn't available.

Investigators say when the children wouldn't move out of her way, Stewart punched the gas and charged into the group, striking four children.

The alleged victims included a 14-year-old, two 13-year-olds, and one 12-year-old. One child was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Stewart was booked into jail and charged with four counts of assault and battery in the first degree. Her bail was set at $40,000. Records show she does not have any prior arrests.
