SKEETER ATTACK

Lakeland, Florida (SafeCITY) Polly Boykin, a 52-year-old Florida woman was jailed after she allegedly shot a cat to death "in self defense" after it reportedly attacked her, her pit bull and her sister.

According to Lakeland Police, the incident began when a cat named Skeeter wandered into Boykin's yard and was promptly chased under a neighbor's motor home by Boykin's pit bull.

When Boykin's sister attempted to coax the cat out from under the motor home, the cat allegedly attacked the woman. That's when Boykin reportedly retrieved a revolver and shot the cat to death.

Boykin told police she shot the cat in self defense.

Boykin's sister claims her hand is now infected from the attack and has been treated at a local hospital for her injuries.

Neighbor's however say Boykin's actions were uncalled for, pointing out that the cat was hiding under a mobile home in another person's yard - and had acted in self defense because of Boykins dog.

Boykin was booked into jail on a charge of animal cruelty and discharging a weapon in public.
