Miami, Florida (SafeCITY) - Ana Josefa Sevilla, a 54-year-old Miami woman was jailed after she allegedly pretended to be a doctor, promising to improve another woman's butt with injections that later caused a severe infection in the woman's backside.
According to police, Donia Rodriquez, 22, was approached by Sevilla who told her she was a doctor who could improve the shape of her buttocks. The subject came up after Rodriquez reportedly told Sevilla that she was unhappy with her appearance.
Sevilla told the woman that she could "fix" Rodriguez, and gave her a flyer about buttocks augmentation using injections.
Investigators say the women met two more times before Rodriguez went through with the procedure. Sevilla, wore a doctor's uniform on one of their visits, collected $1,100 for her services and then set an appointment for the procedure.
Rodriguez told investigators that when she showed up on Saturday for her injections, the procedure went horribly wrong from the start. She told investigators that Sevilla informed her that the first injection was anesthesia, however as the injections continued, she felt an immense amount of pain (the anesthesia obviously didn't work) and eventually passed out from the pain.
When her mother picked her up, she was still disoriented.
Rodriguez later developed a severe infection caused by the injections. She was hospitalized for two weeks following surgery. Doctors stated that she could have lost her leg, or worse, her life, had she waited any longer for treatment.
Sevilla was booked into jail and charged with two counts of unlicensed practice of a health care profession and practicing or attempting to practice medicine without a license. She was released after posting $15,000 bond.
Sevilla's case is not unique in Florida. Authorities say other fake doctors have been offering services to augment women's buttocks while using products like Fix-A-Flat and Super Glue in lieu of Botox and state approved silicone injections.
