Sweet Springs, Missouri (SafeCITY) - Michelle Marie Cheatham, a 32-year-old Sweet Springs woman was jailed after her son brought methamphetamine and a crack pipe to school for show-and-tell.
According to Sweet Springs police, officers were called to the Sweet Springs Elementary School after a kindergarten student brought several baggies of meth and his mother's crack pipe to show-and-tell.
The child was in possession of about one ounce of meth, which has an approximate street value of $3,700, according to investigators.
The drugs were found when the child was unpacking his backpack in the hallway. Officers believe that the drugs were never brought inside the classroom, and no other students were exposed to them.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and executed a search of Cheatham's residence. One additional crack pipe was recovered from the home.
She told detectives that she had been going through a rough time in her life since her husband died in a car accident earlier this year and she received a large military pension. The child is now in the custody of family friends.
Cheatham was booked into jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance and first-degree child endangerment. Her bond was set at $7,500.
