According to police, 23-year-old Jessica Wimpee, had decided to break off her engagement to with Lawler and dropped by his mother's business to pick up some boxes and drop off the engagement ring he had given her.
Investigators say Lawler showed up at the business a few minutes later and blocked her vehicle in so she couldn't leave. When Wimpee attempted to get into her car, Lawler pulled out a knife and began repeatedly stabbing her. Lawler also managed to cut Wimpee's throat before his mother intervened and pulled him away. During the attack Lawler was shouting "I Love You".
Lawler then reportedly jumped into a van and fled the scene.
He turned himself into police and was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $300,000.
Wimpee was rushed to an area hospital where she underwent surgery for various stab wounds and lacerations.
