FAKES BURGLARY

Milton, FL (SafeCITY) - Travis Monroe Laseter, a 35-year-old Florida man was jailed after he allegedly burglarized a convenience store and then called 911 in an attempt to divert deputies from his location.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, Laseter was burglarizing Kiley's Convenience Store in Milton when deputies arrived on the scene with a canine unit.

Investigators say Laseter called the Sheriff's Office and reported a fake burglary at another nearby business in an attempt to divert deputies from finding him.

In the 911 call, Laseter told the dispatcher that three black males were burglarizing Tightwad Grocery Store. As deputies swarmed the building, Laseter abruptly hung up.

Deputies found him hiding behind a door a few moments later.

After deputies apprehended Laseter and loaded him into the back of a squad car, Laseter attempted to reach his mother to inform her that he'd been arrested. He accidentally dialed 911 instead. Both calls are captured in the video below.

Lasater was booked into jail on charges of burglarizing an unoccupied structure and making a false report. His bond was set at $17,500.
