Lewiston, Idaho (SafeCITY) - Rafael Escamilla, a 50-year-old Florida man who was allegedly caught masturbating on a SkyWest Airlines flight, told police he was merely itching because he had spilled Tabasco sauce on his penis.
According to Lewiston Police, Escamilla was on a flight from Salt Lake City to Lewiston when a high school cheerleader seated next to him noticed his "penis going side to side under the tray table that was down."
She went on to say Escamilla had one hand on his laptop (that had been placed on top of the tray table) and the other hand under the table.
After waiting two to three minutes, the girl - who was traveling alone - excused herself and headed to the bathroom at the rear of the plane. She then found a seat next to a woman towards the back of the plain. She reportedly told the woman seated next to her that Escamilla "creeped her out."
Investigators say the girl, who exited the plane crying, told her father about the experience, and it was her father who alerted police.
Escamilla insisted to police that his penis "wasn't hanging out" but that he had an incredible itch due to Tabasco sauce that had dripped onto his penis. He went on to say that he was rubbing his penis because "it was the worst itch in the world."
When questioned as to how he would have gotten Tabasco sauce on his penis "if it wasn't out" Escamilla changed his story and told detectives that it might have happened during his breakfast that morning. When detectives asked why he didn't just go to the restroom to do his scratching, he stated that he "didn't feel that it would help."
Escamilla, who works as both a physical therapist and professor at two universities, was booked into jail on a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure. His next court appearance has been set for January 18.
