Daytona Beach, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Patty Bigbee, 45, and her boyfriend, Lawrence Works, 42, were jailed after they allegedly tried to sell Bigbee's 9-week-old grandson for $30,000.
According to Daytona Beach Police, an investigation began after a witness informed detectives that Bigbee tried to sell a baby to them in a parking lot.
Investigators say the couple was apprehended after they reportedly met with an undercover detective who posed as a potential buyer. When asked why they needed money, they stated that they just bought a Chevy Malibu and needed to pay it off. Bigbee initially asked for $75,000, but dropped her price to $30,000 for a quick sale.
The child, who's mother is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges, was turned over to welfare officials.
Bigbee and Works were booked into the Volusia County Jail and charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child. Bigbee was also charged with communication fraud. Work's bond was set at $50,000 and Bigbee's was set at $100,000.
Investigators believe Bigbee may have previously had a role in extortion plots and schemes to sell children.
